Q. Why were the books moved?
Why were all the books and bookshelves moved out of the Library North wing?
Because of the new science building, faculty offices needed to be relocated from the old science building and SAC 1 into Library North and other locations on campus.
This also gave the library the opportunity to review the entire print collection, which had not been done in a long time. This project helps students find the books they need more easily, and it makes sure that we are keeping books that are most useful for campus curricular and research needs. This also gives us the opportunity to free up valuable space for new materials and additional technology-enhanced collaborative and creative spaces.
We have a large compact shelving storage area on the 1st floor, and most the books that were not kept in the open stacks have been put into compact shelving for easy retrieval by Library staff.
All of this aligns with re-imagining the NextGen Library as well as the campus visioning process.
